On the misuse of Astrology and the Tarot. By Samuel Abrams
There are 3 areas where I feel divination is often misused, especially via Astrology and the Tarot
The first is where someone does a card or astrological analysis for a particular day or week unrelated to a particular person. I feel that readings like this can give divination a bad name. They use very broad statements that will be accurate for a few, might broadly be applied to others and completely wrong for many. This type of reading also emphasizes external influences and allows people to say this is not my fault or responsibility, it is due to the stars. Astrology and Tarot should be seen as maps of what could happen and prepare us for it. They should not be seen as controlling you or eliminating free will.
The second is using tarot or astrology constantly. You can become dependent on it like a drug or a crutch and ignore and lose other abilities such as unaided intuition, logic or common sense. We have these abilities for a reason, please do not neglect them.
Third – This applies only to tarot – Doing readings for yourself. Unless ir it about something of little importance and less emotional content (what should I have for Dinner) you are not likely to get accurate answers. What you will pick up are your own hopes, fears or/and expectations, not the spiritually based guidance you seek.
