I was replying to a post earlier about reaching that point in the day where your brain is just done, and it inspired me to share this gentle reminder with everyone here. Too many of us get caught in the "I have to get it all done" trap.
As a society, we’re conditioned and taught to believe we have to do it all—especially women. The job, keeping up with the house, shuttling the kids around, preparing meals, and somehow fitting in time to care for ourselves on top of it all.
Today’s society asks far too much of human beings. We have to learn when to step back and say, "One or two things accomplished today is good." (I prefer to leave out the word "enough" because it can sound like settling.)
Try keeping your daily to-do lists shorter than the items allowed in a grocery store express lane. On some days, that one thing might simply be taking a shower—and that is completely valid, especially for people dealing with depression, burnout, or chronic illness.
A lot of times, we also have "silent to-do lists"—the invisible mental labor and daily tasks we don't even count as list items because we just do them automatically.
We have to learn to honor our bodies and minds, and actually stop when they signal us to stop. It’s a challenging process and no one is perfect at it, but listening to yourself is literally a life-sustaining practice.
Hugs to everyone who thinks their to-do list doesn't have enough checks on it, and to those whose lists are full. Honor your body and your boundaries today. 🤍
