Pranic Healing and Reiki are both types of energy healing that serve to help recipients relax, de-stress, and heal from physical and emotional conditions. Neither of them are a substitute for mainstream medicine. They are both complementary practices that work best in conjunction with mainstream medicine. Since I have studied both Pranic Healing and Reiki, I feel qualified to explain the differences between them. I am a graduate of Reiki I, Reiki II, and have completed the Master Course in Usui Reiki. In Reiki I, we learn hand positions to project energy to people and animals. In Reiki II, we learn how to project energy over a distance and how to use symbols, which adds more power to the healing. In the Master Course, we learn more techniques. We also learn how to teach and give the attunements that are done in each course.
I loved practicing Reiki, especially as a Registered Nurse and as one of the first members of the Reiki Team at a prominent Rehab Hospital in Southeastern PA. Reiki is inconspicuous, which is very useful when approaching anxious patients or those with dementia.
So why would I move onto Pranic Healing? I attended an introductory talk presented by Dr. Krupa Sivamurthy at our local Holistic Nurses group meeting. I was very impressed that a Medical Doctor would use something like energy healing and excitedly told my Reiki instructor. We both attended an introductory session and when my Reiki instructor described Pranic Healing as being "very powerful," I had to sign up.
Pranic Healing consists of levels similar to Reiki: there is Basic Pranic Healing, Advanced Pranic Healing, Pranic Psychotherapy, Pranic Crystal Healing, as well as other courses and three levels of certifications. The certification program is designed to give the practitioner exposure to more complex cases. While Reiki has specific hand positions, Pranic Healing has protocols for specific medical conditions, such as headache, GI upset, fractures, cardiac illnesses, respiratory infections, diabetes, and even cancer. In addition, Pranic Healing involves removing stagnant energies from a person's body or chakras then offers specific instructions as to how to dispose of those energies. There are techniques to sweeping away stagnant energy then infusing with fresh, clean prana. Pranic Healing also uses colors of energy and as mentioned above, uses different types crystals and in specific ways. Like Reiki, Pranic Healing can be done over distance.
Pranic Healing also offers practitioners various meditations, the foundation being a Metta meditation called the Twin Hearts Meditation.
So in short, Pranic Healing has diverse tools and specific instructions for getting the job done. Some people see it as the next generation of energy healing. I recall how a Reiki Master described Pranic Healing when she experienced a Pranic Healing for the first time. She exclaimed, "Whoa, this is like Reiki on steroids." I would never say one school of energy healing is better than any other. Each has their own strengths. I can say that Pranic Healing offers a tremendous wealth of knowledge and tools. You can delve as deep as you wish. If you have an opportunity to experience Pranic Healing, give it a try and see what you think.
